Wisbech Town FC, who face three games in seven days this week, kept the pressure on the UCL leaders with an away win on Saturday.

Following a goalless first half which featured numerous chances for both sides the Fenmen won 3-2 at Wellingborough Town.

Scorers for the visitors, who were always ahead, were Tommy Treacher on 50 and 73 minutes and strike partner Danny Beaumont on 55.

Wisbech manager Dick Creasey said of Treacher’s double: “The first goal was a goalmouth scramble but the second was a quality goal. He rounded the goalkeeper and put it in from an acute angle.

“They had just got it back to 2-1 so it was a good time to score. We deserved to win but it wasn’t a great performance.”

Tonight (Wednesday) in the Ridgeons Cambs Invitation Cup, Wisbech Town travel to Histon to play hosts Cambridge City.

Boss Creasey is unsure what strength of team their higher-level opponents will field.

He said: “I don’t know what to expect in that match. I haven’t a clue what sort of side they will play.

“We need to play as many of our regular players and make some changes at half-time. We’ll pick everyone who’s available, apart from Matt Lunn who we won’t bring up from London.”

The Fenmen entertain second-from-bottom Harborough Town in the ChromaSport & Trophies UCL Premier Division next Saturday. Neal Spafford is available again after suspension.

Creasey commented: “We’re not going to disrespect our opponents – we’ll go into it as we do every game. Holbeach and Yaxley are in Vase action so we’ll catch a game up on them.

“We need to win it to keep in touch with the leaders.”

In the KO Cup on Tuesday Wisbech travel in a derby to Peterborough Northern Star.

Wisbech: Jordan, Johnson, Fairweather, Wilson, Horne, Smith (Lunn), Reid, Millson, Cobb (Bayliss), Treacher, Beaumont (Ford).

l Wisbech Reserves have been drawn away to Premier Division Deeping Rangers Reserves in the quarter-final of the PFA Senior Cup.
