MARCH Town manager Brett Whaley hopes his goalkeeper situation is solved, as on Thursday he signed Aaron Butcher, who made his debut in Saturday’s 4-1 triumph over Ipswich Wanderers.
Ex-Peterborough United stopper Butcher, who has just been released from Evo-Stik Division One South outfit Ilkeston, stepped in after Lewis Moat was recalled by UCL title-chasers Peterborough Northern Star for one game. PNS this weekend have an FA Vase tie and may require Moat’s services for the bench.
Whaley said before this Saturday’s trip over the Norfolk border to bottom five strugglers Swaffham Town: “Aaron is a good talker and a good organiser. He is in theory available between now and the New Year. It’s a difficult situation – we’re not in the situation of being able to spend money on bigger-name players.
“So hopefully we will have Lewis or Aaron available until the end of the year. Ideally we would like to have a permanent goalkeeper and it could be that at the end of the year that either Lewis or Aaron could do that.
“But realistically Aaron has from a side who plays two levels above us so I am sure other clubs will show an interest.”
Tom Norton and Ash Brand return to the squad, while Craig Norman is in contention for a first team recall since just rejoining the club and coming through a reserve game on Saturday.
