Leverington put their poor league form behind them for a very good 2-1 win against Deeping Reserves in the Peterborough Senior Cup on Saturday.
Stu Webb’s side had lost their last four Premier Division games but it was no coincidence that this revival came with the return of experienced central defender Steve Thompson.
But in the end it was a wonder goal from Nathan Watson that settled the tie 15 minutes from the end. The former Fenman went on a mazy run beating six defenders before going round the keeper.
Jason Day had given Leverington the lead after 10 minutes with a free kick from 30 yards out. Deeping had deservedly equalised after 60 minutes.
Webb said: “I would have preferred three points, but it is always good to have a cup run. I am Nathan’s fiercest critic but that was the best goal I have seen for some time.”
Long Sutton lost their tie 8-2 at Premier Division side Moulton Harrox. Jake Clitheroe scored twice late on.
Parson Drove drew 1-1 with Oakham in the Premier Division after scorer Shaun Simpson was sent off for yellow cards in the first 30 minutes.
