Wisbech Town 2,
Kirkley & Pakefield 1
The ten-man Fenmen came from behind to advance in the FA Cup at the Elgood’s Stadium on Saturday.
Kirkley & Pakefield had taken the lead with an 11th minute penalty while Nathan Horne saw a straight red just after the break.
However Stuart Cobb (32 minutes) and Josh Ford (34) provided the winning goals as the visitors also received a red card.
Wisbech manager Dick Creasey said: “First of all we’re delighted to be in the next round.
“There’s a lot left in the tank for us to improve on, which sometimes is good.”
Creasey criticised the refereeing and disagreed with both sendings-off.
He said: “A good game was probably half-ruined by poor officiating. It’s not sour grapes as we won the game.
“Straight after half-time it was a shoulder barge by Nathan, but he’s sent him off as the last man, which video evidence proves otherwise.
“He just put his shoulder into the opponent’s shoulder.
“Their lad got two yellow cards. The second one definitely, but the first one, I’m not so sure.”
Neal Spafford (hamstring) and Stacy Cartwright (managing 70 minutes with his ankle problem) both came out of the tie struggling and their fitness was monitored at last night’s UCL game at home to Sleaford Town, who last month Wisbech beat in the FA Cup 3-1.
