Defeat is harsh on improved Chatteris

A much-improved Chatteris Town lost 2-1 at high-flying Foxton in the Cambs League Premier Division.

Basement side Chatteris went behind early on when a loose ball fell to a home player, who hit it first time into the top corner of the net.

They equalised in the second half when sub Alex Ashley scored with only his second touch. But, as often happens with a struggling team, they lost to an unfortunate goal.

Lilies boss Steve Bright said: “We looked quite good and confident. They put us under a bit of pressure.

“Their left winger cut in and took a shot and our keeper pulled off a brilliant save but he pushed it across goal and the right winger put it straight back into the net.

“The previous week we were poor but the boys played really well this week.”

The winner was hard on keeper Max Flintoff, as Bright added: “It is only his second or third game and he made three or four tremendous saves.

“Even their manager said that when you’re down there you don’t get those breaks.”

Sixth-position Wisbech St Mary’s home game with Over Sports was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

In Senior A, struggling Wimblington lost at home to Cambridge City Res 3-1.
