Wisbech Town 1, CRC 3

The Fenmen lost their third successive game with a disappointing home performance on Tuesday night at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium in the Ridgeons Premier Division.

The Cambridge side took the lead after 16 minutes, but top scorer Chris Bacon equalised six minutes before the break after he was sent clear for a one on one with the goalkeeper and he slid the ball under his body.

An end to end first half could easily have finished 3-3 as both teams carved out openings with Wisbech hitting a post.

The visitors were back in front five minutes after the start of the second half. Wisbech had their fair share of possession after this but were not at their best in the final third and one or two decisions went against them.

A third CRC goal came in the final minute from the penalty spot.

One consolation for Wisbech is that second placed Brantham suffered a 6-0 home defeat to Hadleigh.

Boss Steve Appleby said: “On the night Cambridge were the better side and we looked a little tired at times.”
