Wisbech Town 0,
Holbeach Utd 2
An already depleted Wisbech Town FC side lost Paul Cousins to injury in the first half of this ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division defeat.
Kieran Elliott scored the visitors’ first goal after 20 minutes at the Elgood’s Stadium.
Wisbech conceded another goal from Tom Sergeant in the second half, but more worrying is the fact that key centre half Cousins joined a Fenmen injury list that on Saturday read defender Scott Johnson and forward Matt Lunn.
Cousins sustained an early head injury which left him with a bloodstained bandage and he then picked up a leg injury. Centre-forward Tony Battersby deputised in central defence for a while.
The eighth-spot Fenmen do not have the biggest squad and face an even bigger struggle to fill the bench in their final three games of the campaign, beginning on Saturday at Sileby Rangers and on Monday at Holbeach United.
Joint boss Dick Creasey said Johnson and Cousins are out for the season while monitoring the fitness of Lunn.
The Wisbech Town Acorns open day laid on many treats for parents, siblings and friends including a souvenir/merchandise tent, mascot Fenny and the appearance of past Wisbech heroes Roy McManus and Jackie Gallagher.
The Fenmen Supporters’ Club organised a quiz for younger supporters while Danny White picked up the player of the season award.
