Derby delight for Leverington
Leverington came away with the bragging rights in the Peterborough Premier Division derby game against Parson Drove.
Stu Webb’s side collected back to back wins as they emerged as 2-1 winners, but Drove boss Alan Russell was adamant his side deserved something from the game.
Sam Cubberley gave Leverington the lead with a breakaway goal after Joe Gallagher had threaded the ball through.
Gallagher then scored the second goal after 60 minutes with a near post header from a Nathan Watson cross.
Drove pushed hard to get back in the game, but could not put away their chances until the last two minutes with Adam Bunton making it 2-1.
Webb said: “I thought on the balance of play we deserved the win. Steve Thompson had another good game in defence and Gallagher also did well.”
Russell countered: “Disappointing result, but good performance. We battered them in the second half but just could not get the goals.”
Long Sutton were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Maccasports and drop to fourth place in Division 1. Sutton Bridge lost 2-1 at home to Ketton.
