Wisbech Town FC manager Steve Appleby was happy with his side’s first pre-season game.
The Fenmen began with a scorching 1-1 result with neighbours King’s Lynn Town on Saturday as Tom James scored on his debut.
Of the result against Northern Premier League side Lynn, Appleby said: “The result is put into perspective with the level King’s Lynn are at, and we deserved it in the end. It was a good workout.”
He was especially pleased with his new forwards: “There were a couple of impressive debuts from Steve Harley and Tom James.
“Tom was always a threat and they couldn’t cope with his direct running and pace.
“We could have even got a penalty decision in the end when the ball was in their box and one of their lads tipped it over the bar with his hand, but the referee decided to blow for full-time.”
For last night’s (Tuesday) derby at home to March Anthony Reeve and Steve Reid returned while Stacy Cartwright and Scott Johnson were unavailable.
On Friday’s clash with Mildenhall at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium, Danny White and Steve Harley are unavailable.
Appleby added on the need to mix and match his squad during these games: “We’ll give people some game time and swap them about.
“We have got a squad and we need everyone to be fit. It is now down to the players.
“I’ve got no favourites. It is a new season and there are no guaranteed starting spots.”
