Drove in rich vein of form

PARSON Drove maintained their good recent Peterborough League Premier Division form by picking up a 2-1 victory at Rutland Rangers thanks to a Scott McManus brace.

Manager Nick Markillie said: “We’re on fire to be honest at the moment. That’s two draws and three wins out of five games.

“We hope to get our act together a bit earlier in the season and now kick on a bit.”

Leverington were edged out 1-0 by visitors Deeping Sports.

Long Sutton Athletic manager Paul Preston is stepping down after four years in charge of the Division One team. He has had a 25-year association with the club.

Following Long Sutton’s 7-2 home defeat to Peterborough Sports, their final game of the campaign, he said: “I’ve done as much as I can. I work and run the clubroom as well, so it’s hard work.

“We were 5-1 down at half-time, and played quite decently, but all five goals were down to ridiculous mistakes. We gave away a stupid penalty, then two defenders ran into each other.

“We’re masters of our own downfall at times, and it seems like that every week.”
