Haverhill 0, Wisbech 3
DUBI Ogbonna scored a goal in each half to help set up Wisbech Town’s first Thurlow Nunn Premier Division win of the season on Tuesday night.
Steve Appleby’s side were given the perfect start in a bruising encounter when Neal Spafford pulled the ball back for Ogbonna to give Wisbech an early lead.
Ogbonna added a second goal from close range after the break and Chris Bacon, who had missed Saturday’s opening day draw with suspension, added a third goal before being almost immediately substituted.
Midfielder Rogan McGeorge took a nasty bang on the head and had to come off suffering double vision and later went to hospital for a check up.
Appleby commented: “It was a real feisty encounter which was unusual for Haverhill, who have always liked to play football. We got a an early goal which settled us and we just stuck at it.
“It was a loads better performance than Saturday and we have come away with a clean sheet as well. I took Bacon off because I did not want to risk him getting injured with Simon Mowbray not available on Saturday. Hopefully Rogan will be fine as well.”
