Wisbech Tn 1,
AFC Rushden 3
Wisbech boss Dick Creasey admitted his team struggles on poor pitches after the Elgood’s Stadium got caught in a monsoon in this clash with the UCL leaders, who finished with eight players.
Diamonds went ahead with two free-kicks on six and 25 minutes before their first dismissal occurred.
AFC added another goal before Josh Ford replied in a second half downpour, but the hosts couldn’t reduce the arrears further despite Rushden losing two more players to red cards.
Creasey said: “Give Rushden and Diamonds a lot of credit. They did everything really well and deserved to win.
“I am concerned that we’ve built a team that wants to play football and on the bad pitches we struggle.
“I’m more disappointed with the goals we gave away. You simply can’t do that to a good team like Rushden.
“They played with eight men for 15 minutes but by then the damage was done.
“The game should have been abandoned at half-time. It was like a lake.”
