OSSIE MINTUS has quit as Chatteris Town manager two weeks before the Cambs League Premier Division season starts.
Mintus, a former Histon and Ely City Reserves manager, was appointed on the final day of last season to succeed caretaker manager Julian Young.
It was only a month ago he revealed his hopes for the new season and possible additions to the first team squad. But since then four players Aaron Bailey, Aidan Hollis, skipper Stu Porter and goalkeeper Ben Collett have joined neighbours March Town and defender Tony Brown is also considering the same move.
Lilies chairman Steve Bright said; “It has not only the exodus of players joining March but also the poor turnouts at training that have left Ossie frustrated.
“It is very disappointing because I felt he would have done an excellent job for the club. Our training clashed on Tuesdays with six-a-side leagues and players preferred to go there.”
“We have called a crisis meeting with the players and I have already had a former player show interest in taking over the manager’s role and have a meeting with him later this week.
Chatteris’s first league game of the season is on August 14 at home to Linton Granta.
