Wisbech manager Steve Appleby has warned his players they are playing for their futures at the club after their poorest display of the year on Saturday.
The Fenmen have shown inconsistency all season but for this flaw may well have been challenging for honours at the top of the Ridgeons Premier instead of a seventh place.
Appleby did feel he was close to assembling a squad to compete for honours next season with just one or two additions in the summer. But recent displays are making him think again. “We have the quality but you cannot be so inconsistent if you want to win things. The players now have to knuckle down and show me they deserve to be here next season.”
Wisbech travel to Felixstowe on Saturday and Appleby will be hoping that central defender Anthony Reeve is fit after coming off at half-time.
