WISBECH Town Reserves managers Mark Jimson and Mel Mattless have quit with the start of the Cambs League Senior A season just six days away.
Jimson and Mattless took over the running of the reserve side after Darren Edey quit early last season and they found it a real struggle to raise a team each week.
But their hard work through last season was rewarded when they managed to avoid relegation from Senior A.
The reserves were due to play a friendly against Leverington on Thursday night but the game was called off because of a shortage of players.
Jimson said: “I am gutted to pack in because I love the club but it was a real struggle last season and things do not look any better for this coming season. It is a great shame because there are some really promising young players like Max Mattless and Danny Emmington.”
Last season’s skipper Simon Jones has left to play for Leverington, but Sam Cubberley had returned to the club.
Wisbech were due to play Wimblington in their first league game of the season next Wednesday night, so the club will have to act quickly if the game is to go ahead.
