Wisbech Town 1, Desborough 1
MATT Lunn’s powerful header eight minutes from time saved the Fenmen from an FA Cup exit at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Saturday.
The two sides will now meet again on Tuesday night at Desborough with the winners at home to either Yaxley or Northampton Spencer who also drew on Saturday.
Steve Appleby’s side were below par for the second week running at home and an embarrassing defeat looked on the cards until substitutes Lunn and Rogan McGeorge conjured up the equaliser.
Wisbech had squandered three good chances through Chris Bacon, Dubi Ogbonna and Neal Spafford in the first half.
They looked to have paid for those misses on 61 minutes when Dan Kitching gave the visitors the lead.
But with time running out McGeorge crossed from the right and Lunn headed powerfully into the corner of the net to give the Fenmen a lifeline.
Certainly Appleby was not impressed with his team’s performance and said: “We can play 50 per cent better and just got involved in a battle and have not been able to play again at home. No excuses the lads know that is not good enough.
“Had we scored first I think it would have been a totally different game. I think Desborough are in for shock on Tuesday because they will think it is job done. We have not played poorly, but there is no doubt we can play a lot better and I am not sure Desborough can.
“The bottom line is we are still in it and we will give it a real go on Tuesday, you can be sure of that.”
Anthony Reeve and Simon Mowbray will both be back for the replay but Callum Reed is still on holiday.
