Thurnby Nirvana 4
Wisbech Town 1
Nirvana? This was anything but for the Fenmen in a poor performance on their first visit to this Leicestershire club.
Wisbech had levelled via Billy Smith but they conceded three goals in six second half minutes.
Manager Dick Creasey said: “In all honestly we were fortunate to get the result we got. We got what we deserved.
“The players know how I feel about it.
“We talked about how they play, and we’d had a look at them. They were out of the blocks quickly.
“At a quarter to three I got an inkling that one or two didn’t fancy it. I tried to get that out of their systems but it didn’t work.
“I said to them that this is where you can win or lose leagues.
“It’s not the most fantastic set-up but you have to go to these places. We probably got the team set-up a bit wrong and we now need to regroup.
“Neal Spafford’s hamstring tightened up in the last few minutes and we’ll look again at that in midweek.”
Thurnby went ahead after three minutes but away forward Smith scored the equaliser on 63. However Nirvana went in bloom with goals on 71, 74 and 77 minutes.
It leaves Wisbech 16th in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier from two games, although they have played fewer than nearly all the other teams.
