Spalding 5, Wisbech Tn 1

Fenmen manager Dick Creasey said the scoreline flattered last season’s UCL champions the Tulips in Wisbech’s final pre-season game of the summer.

He said: “Spalding played fairly well while we didn’t play that well. It wasn’t a 5-1 – if it had been 2-1 or 3-1 you could accept it.”

Josh Ford replied on 35 minutes for the visitors.

Creasey has injury worries with Callum Reed and Jon Fairweather picking up knocks. Reed is suspended anyway for Saturday’s UCL opener against Harborough Town and returns on Tuesday.

Therefore Creasey hopes to make one addition (due to take place last night) plus a loan signing or two to bolster the squad this weekend with players unavailable.

Matt Lunn is away teaching, Neal Spafford and Stuart Cobb are on holiday while Scott Johnson misses Tuesday’s home game with Eynesbury.

Creasey added: “Callum was very sore and the physio told me we’ll wait for it to settle down. Jon has a back strain but hopefully he’ll be OK for Saturday.”

Stacy Cartwright is having an MRI scan this week on his fractured ankle sustained earlier in pre-season.

Last Tuesday Wisbech beat visitors Mildenhall Town 5-0. Scorers were Billy Smith 2, Danny Beaumont, a Reed penalty and Johnson.

On Thursday Creasey is holding a question time / forum for all supporters at the Wisbech Town FC clubhouse starting at 7.30pm.
