Fenmen in defender search

Wisbech are still searching for a defender as they enter the festive period.

The Fenmen played three at the back in last Saturday’s victory as they have not so far secured a replacement for key player Jon Fairweather, who has departed to UCL leaders Spalding.

The previously-unavailable Danny Jezeph and James Tricks were due to return last night (Tuesday) at 12th-placed Sleaford while Callum Stocks should be in contention after having stitches removed from his le.

Wisbech joint boss Paul Cousins said: “Obviously Jon has gone and we are after another centre-half.

“We’d like to win this one as they stopped our little run (Sleaford won 4-3 at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on October 22). We weren’t very good that night, either.”

Wisbech have no fixture next Saturday, so the players will train in the morning. Their next match is on Boxing Day at home to Holbeach.
