The Fenmen beat cup holders Stanway to lift the Red Insure Cup final at Diss Town FC on Bank Holiday Monday.

Wisbech triumphed in the Thurlow Nunn Football League’s cup competition thanks to goals from Matt Lunn and Danny White.

Wisbech were winners in 2010/11, and boss Steve Appleby said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to win the cup twice in three years. The boys have worked so hard.”

Wide man Lunn, on his farewell appearance for the club, opened the scoring on 26 minutes. Rovers quickly levelled from a free-kick but former Wroxham midfielder White scored the Fenmen’s winner mere moments later.

It may be the Fenmen’s last match as an Eastern Counties League club as they could move to the UCL next season. Appleby will take a week off then speak to the players before considering his future after the club elected to not take up its promotion spot.
