HEADFEN Fishery was the venue for the latest Fenland Rods club match which saw some fine weights recorded from the Snake Pool.
Top rod was the in-form Kev Lee, who made it three wins in a row with a superb display of meat fishing. He started in the deeper water down the middle then switched to the margins late on to finish with 150lb 8oz and the bonus “Golden Peg” payout.
Dave Simpson caught well on pellet to record 137lb 12oz to take second place followed by Dick Warrener on 116lb 4oz and John smith with 111lb.
This week the club are on the small carp lake at Kingsland.
The early pegs on Fields End Water at Doddington fished well for the Rose and Crown club on Sunday and despite everyone getting a good soaking there were plenty of fish to be had. Top rod with 77lb 1oz from peg 7 was Kev Bridgement, who fished a groundbait feeder with pellet netting carp to 4lb; Bill Savage took the runner-up spot on 75lb 1oz, followed by Dave Beeken with 45lb 3oz.
The mid-week senior citizens match at Fields End saw Alan Wiggins top the list with 106lb 6oz, taken on a pole and paste approach from peg 6. Runner-up was Harold Towler, a came close with 99lb 8oz on pellet followed by Les Palmer with 93lb 14oz.
It was obviously a very busy week at this popular venue as on Sunday local club Queens AC took to the water. Out in front with 96lb 7oz was Ray Sladden who caught on a waggler with maggot approach. Runner-up was Barry Goldsmith on 78lb 6oz followed by John Ellis with 68lb 1oz.
Spratt’s AC fished what has to be one of the best waters in the area right now, the Six Island Pool on the Decoy complex. In their latest match winner Mac Campbell put a fine 177lb net of carp to the scales all taken on worm and meat fished close in from peg 14. Second place went to Trevor Cousins on 98lb again fishing short with meat, followed by Shaun Buddle on a level 94lb, he fished paste out at eight metres.
The Townsend Fishery open saw anglers lining the banks of the Woodpecker pool and out in front was venue expert Ricky Young with 91lb 12oz. He drew peg 10 and fished shallow with pellet for most of the match switching to meat late on for a few better samples. In second place was Derrick Moss with 59lb 6oz followed by Harry Morgan on 56lb 12oz.
In the Tuesday evening Buttonhole Fishery match Les Barry came out on top putting 72lb 11oz to the scales taken on the pole with meat. Junior rod William Barlow came in second on 59lb 9oz followed by Andrew Carter with 51lb 12oz.
On Sunday Houghton Main AC had a cracking result at the fishery with 185lb winning and several other anglers putting three figure weights to the scales.
Sensa Team Challenge
Round Two of the Sensas Team challenge saw the anglers back on the North Level Drain. Bream showed again for match winner Andy Moss who weighed in 33lb 4oz, but surprisingly quite a few of the anglers found it tough going. On the team front it was Maver Bait Tech taking the honours on the day but with just one round to go it’s Browning Hotrods in pole position.

Standings after two rounds: 1 Browning Hotrods 4pts, 2 equal Sensa Mark One Black 5pts and Maver Bait Tech 5pts.
Black Dyke was the venue for the Tuesday evening Tydd Gote match which saw Andrew Goodyer out in front with 10lb 14oz of skimmers and roach taken on chopped worm. Mark Lynn came second with 7lb 6oz followed by Andy Greenwood with 5lb 14oz.
The Thursday match on the same venue saw Dave Parlett topping the field with 5lb 13oz. Runner-up with 4lb 13½ oz was Barry Stacey followed by Bob Fitzjohn on 4lb 4oz.
Sunday’s club match saw Carol Davis well ahead of the field putting 11lb 6oz to the scales, a net of skimmers and perch taken on the tip with worm. Then came Dick Paul with 8lb 9oz and Dave Parlett on 6lb 4½ oz.
Fixtures: Tuesday and Thursday evening draw at 5.30 at Black Dyke; Sunday draw at 11am, fish 12-5 at Black Dyke.
There was a big weight taken in the latest Chatteris Working Men’s Club match fished on the Forty Foot at the Pump. Three good tench and a bream put Mark Dunham well out in front finishing with 20lb 13oz. Then came Steve Newell with a level 5lb, followed by Chris Dunham with 3lb 12oz.
