The summer cycling season is coming to an end but the indoor track season is in full swing.
At the Newport Velodrome in Wales Wisbech vets were out in force at the LVRC National Championships.
Regular ‘trackie’ Ken Roesner made his usual strong showing in the ‘D’ group (55–60) with silver medals in the Points and the Scratch race and bronze in the Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit.
The real revelation was Wisbech-based Swiss rider Martin Ruup in his first outing.
In the ‘A’ group (40–45) where riders are still at their performance peak, he took three golds in the Individual Pursuit, Match Sprints and Scratch race, silver in the Points race and 750 metre TT and bronze in the Team Pursuit and Team Sprint and gained the jersey for Best Overall Rider.
Paul Sims at his first competitive track meeting in over 40 years came within a whisker of bronze in the ‘E’ group (60-65) Match Sprint.
On Sunday another Wisbech vet, Dave Webster, for his first 50 mile TT had a cracking 1.59.55 in the CC Breckland Open Event.
