March Town opened their Thurlow Nunn Division One campaign with two second-half strikes and a solid win over their visitors.
In front of a crowd of 70, the first half saw Stow hit the post and goalkeeper Dave Beeney pulled off a great save.
March also created opportunities but in the second half the Hares improved to take control of proceedings.
Denny Escorcio surged forward and fired in a low shot, then Sean White settled the game when he scorched one into the top corner.
March’s new joint boss Chris Bartlett isn’t getting carried away after winning his first game in charge, and said: “Myself and Gino (Agius) won’t be going overboard as March won their first league game last year.
“It was good in terms of the performance. We’re not as pleased as we would like – perhaps expectations were a bit too much.”
He said it was a good result considering how long they had worked with the players, and added: “The second half I felt was all us.
“We scored and that settled people down. It was a great second goal, and we should have got more.”
March went to Saffron Walden last night without Grant Watson, who picked up a dead leg, while there were doubts over Tom Flatters (a knock) and Luke McDowell (work commitments and a quad/hip injury).
He expects the first two to return on Saturday at Braintree Reserves.
Next Tuesday March entertain Swaffham Town, 7.45pm.
