Hares left frustrated

March manager Paul Crosbie said his side dominated this Thurlow Nunn League Division One draw at strugglers Stowmarket on Saturday.

“It was one of those Saturdays where you’re not entirely sure how you didn’t win,” he said.

The Hares went behind in the fourth minute when a back pass was charged down. Five minutes later Michael Anker headed home the equaliser from an Ash Brand corner.

Toby Ogbonna ran the length of the field and his shot hit the underside of the bar. Brand, Robbie Masters, Lewis Thompson and Scott Welcher all went close, but March gave away a penalty just before half-time to go behind.

“I said at half-time just to keep going and we changed it from 4-1-3-2 to 4-3-3,” said Crosbie.

Brand levelled and rescued a point with a 25-yard free-kick and at the end his ball into the home box was deflected just over the bar by a defender. This puts March in 12th spot.

Crosbie, who named himself on an under-strength bench, has more options for Saturday’s home game with fourth placed Brightlingsea and the fifth-spot Fakenham trip last night.

Ash Spendelow and maybe the injured Luke Pepper are due to return. March will Adam Sutton picked up a knock for the Reserves at the weekend. Sam Barlow misses six to eight weeks with an arm injury.

March: Hipwell, Ogden, Mattless, Anker, Lemmon, Gallagher, Thompson, Brand, Welcher, Ogbonna. Masters.
