March Town FC fielded a mixture of first, reserve and under 18s in their pre-season friendly away at Cottenham, losing out 6-1 overall.
Manager Paul Crosbie said: “The game was three 30-minute periods: 1-0, 0-3 and 0-3.
“Those used to Reserves and youth football contested well against a Cambs Premier Division outfit in periods two and three.
“We gave them plenty of breaks and put our strongest XI out in the first 30-minute period. We ended that period 1-0 up, and from my point of view I was happy.
“We did well and should have been 2-0 up. We defended well, while Aaron McKenna – signed from Wisbech St Mary – ran 25 yards to close down the goalkeeper which led to his goal.
“Jonathan Gibbons, who was excellent and has worked hard in pre-season to get in shape, missed a header under the bar.
“We looked at central midfielder Sam Otuya, who is Toby Ogbonna’s cousin and played at centre half.”
March took a stronger squad to last night’s (Tuesday) derby at Wisbech and on Saturday they are at Swineshead, while the Reserves host Boston Leaguers Leverton. On Tuesday they host Soham Town Rangers Res.
