Hares will rise to a tough test

MARCH Town face their toughest game of the season when they travel to Ridgeons League Division One third-placed Diss Town on Saturday.

Jamie Weston’s side have already suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at home to the Norfolk side in November despite scoring the first goal.

But the March boss is optimistic his side can do better at Diss as they have won their last six away games including a 5-1 win at leaders Cambridge University Press this season and commented: “For an hour I thought we matched Diss and the score was 2-1 but then the game slipped away.

“I think I saw enough in that hour to think we have a good chance of winning at Diss as we are capable of beating anyone in the league on our day.

“We are a team packed full of pace and that is why we are so well suited to playing well on the road.

“We can break quickly on teams when we are away whereas sides come to our ground and sit back and stifle us.”

March are in seventh place and seven points off the top three but do have a couple of games in hand on most teams above them and Weston is still looking to make the top three.

Weston added: “I think our squad at present is the strongest we have had this season with Marc Welcher back to give us a boost and Simon Bates and Adam Cornell have come in and done good jobs.

“You would have to say that promotion is possible but we need to show a lot more consistency to make it happen.

“And it is important we improve our home form because we don’t have a hope if we keeping dropping points at our place.

“Apart from the game against Team Bury next Tuesday, our next five games are against teams above us in the league so by the end of February we should know what our aspirations are for this season.”

Bates and midfielder Dan Sterna return for the Diss game after missing the Cornard win, but Adam Sutton is still at least two weeks away from playing after suffering a knee injury.

The Hares have been drawn away to Ridgeons Premier Division side Haverhill Rovers in the Cambs Invitation Cup semi-finals.
