Former Chatteris Town player Shaun Hayden is looking to improve the club’s fortunes on and off the pitch at West Street.

The 34-year-old, who also turned out for Fen Tigers, already has three local firms ready to pledge sponsorship deals for the Lilies, who have had a devastating start to the current soccer season.

The club’s first team have yet to win in the Cambs League’s Premier Division and the reserve and A teams are also without a league win.

Hayden, a production manager with Chatteris firm ERMS, is likely to take over as chairman from Steve Bright and said: “Chatteris has been a very good club, but in the last two years the talk has all been negative. I live and work near Chatteris and having friends and family involved in the club and I am relishing the challenge to take the club forward.

“We are now in the process in reviewing the current club policies to ensure all our teams remain in their current leagues. The first team players will not pay match day subs and hopefully this will help Steve Bright. By adding players to the first team then the reserves and A teams should benefit too.”

Hayden added: “It’s very early days, but so many positive discussions have taken place and with local businesses to back us we are in a position to complete the refurbishment to the clubhouse.

“I would also like to say anyone is welcome down West Street. I’m willing to listen to anyone who has the club’s best interest at heart. Please email shaun.haydenctfc@gmail.com.”
