MANEA United and Doddington United will meet in the North Cambs Junior Cup final at the GER on April 11 after winning their semi-finals on Saturday.
Josh Hutchinson was the Manea hero with a hat-trick in his side’s 4-3 win against Peterborough League side Whittlesey Blue Star.
Division Two leaders Manea certainly made hard work of their win against a very good side.
Hutchinson gave them an early lead, but Blue Star then took over scoring two very good goals to take the lead before making it 3-1 with a bit of a sloppy goal.
Danny Wayte pulled a goal back for Manea before the break and Hutchinson added two goals in the second half when Manea certainly looked the better side.
Manager James Waters said: “It was very good to come back the way we did and to have a final at the end of the season.”
Doddington manager Steve Bedford was happy to go through 2-1 in his semi-final against Guyhirn. “It was a very even game and to be honest it was like the Alamo in the last few minutes, but we held on.”
Michael Anderton had put Doddington ahead in the first half, but Guyhirn equalised through Andreii Gabriel 10 minutes into the second half.
With 20 minutes to go Gary Smith restored Doddington’s lead.
Bedford added: “It was a very even game although I felt we had the better chances. It was certainly exciting for the neutrals. I am pleased for the lads to have reached a final and something we can look forward to.”
