WISBECH Town skipper Paul Cousins could miss the rest of the season after going off just 40 minutes into Saturday’s Ridgeons League Premier Division win at Clacton with a groin strain.
Manager Steve Appleby commented: “We’ve just had news that it might be a tear, so his season may be over. Paul will be a big miss as he is our captain, our leader and a great influence on the side. But the good thing is, with all due respect to Paul, we’ve got a good squad, good players and good replacements now.”
Anthony Reeve (illness), who missed out on last weekend’s win at the Essex coast side, and Simon Flanz should recover in time for next Saturday’s visit of Felixstowe to the Tom Woods Beers Fenland Stadium.
Appleby is giving his players this week off training, and added: “They’ve got the whole week off because I want to give them a rest. We have had so many games lately.”
The Fenmen are chasing their best league finish in seven years and now have their sights on fourth-place Mildenhall who are three points ahead, but Wisbech have two games in hand and have a better goal difference by six.
