MARCH Town’s Craig Norman has fractured his elbow and will be out of action for six weeks.
Manager Brett Whaley said: “It is desperately unlucky for Craig who has missed so many games already this season with work commitments and was now ready for a chance to return to the side.”
Marc Welcher also begins a three-game ban this week and will miss Saturday’s Ridgeons Division One game against Cambridge University Press at Histon.
Welcher was sent off in the recent match at Stowmarket and his absence could give a start to Lewis Cook or Ben Hepworth.
Whaley added: “It gives the opportunity for a player on the sidelines to step up and take their chance in the side. We have a few options as Gav Cooke can switch from right back to left where he played earlier in the season.
“But with Craig and Marc out, it does leave us a bit short of defenders and I will ring round this week to see if we can bring someone in on loan to cover the next three games.”
Whaley hopes to keep his players ticking over with a stint in the gym this week especially with last night’s cup game at Thetford in doubt.
“It is a bit like a mid-season break at the moment. It is tough for everyone and it will be down to who reacts best when we start playing again. We did use a five-a-side pitch last week but they do not come cheap and so we will settle for the gym this time.
“Fortunately we are not behind with our fixtures with just 10 games left, but Thetford and Godmanchester could be looking at a fixture pile-up if the bad weather continues.”
