Injury makes result irrelevant

March Town 0,

Long Melford 3

March Town boss Paul Crosbie said an arm injury to Sam Darlow on the hour made the result “irrelevant” in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One on Saturday.

The game was delayed by about 30 minutes while Darlow, who faces a long lay-off, was treated.

Crosbie added: “The result is irrelevant after that. Long Melford changed manager in midweek and they had more experienced players – they knew their way round more than a few weeks ago when we beat them. They deserved to win.”

March were in the wars as Lewis Thompson had his eyebrow split open with an elbow.

One behind at the break, March went 2-0 down to a disputed penalty when the Hares were adamant Adam Sutton had tackled cleanly. Melford got a third on the break.

Joe Gallagher made his debut for March, coming off the bench after joining from Leverington.

Ash Spendelow and Sutton, whose partner is about to give birth, are unavailable for Saturday’s trip to Stowmarket while the fitness of Luke Pepper will be monitored.

The Hares play Fakenham on Tuesday.

March: Collett, Mattless, Anker, Darlow, Spendelow, Welcher, Thompson, Brand, Ogbonna, Emmington, Masters. Subs: Sutton, Lemmon, Gallagher.
