Jack brace raises Lilies

Chatteris Town boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation by winning 2-1 at Lakenheath in the Cambs League Premier Division to take them off the bottom of the table.

Boss Steve Bright said: “We saw the best and worst of Chatteris: very good football then a silly retaliation put us under pressure.”

A Jack Saunders brace, including a header, put the Lilies 2-0 up at the break, then Richie Allen saw red for kicking out in retaliation. The visitors held out partly thanks to the bravery of keeper Max Flintoff who carried on after being briefly knocked out in a collision.

Wisbech St Mary won 3-0 over Ely City Res with second half goals from Stu Brown and in-form Mark Newton 2.

Saints boss Arran Duke said: “We started a little slowly but looked solid throughout and kept our shape very well.

“In the second half we upped our game; Simon Bates, Aaron McKenna and Marley Coe all came off the bench and had an impact.”
