MARCH Town play their final pre-season friendly against UCL side Sleaford Town at the GER on Saturday (3pm).
But new manager Paul Crosbie, desperately trying to formulate a side for the opening Thurlow Nunn Division One game against Debenham away on August 4, will have key players missing on Saturday.
Last season’s top scorer Stuart Anderson is at a wedding and Ash Spendelow is also unavailable, but Tony Brown, Darren Rawthorn and goalkeeper Marc Hipwell will be back.
Crosbie said: “That’s the trouble at this time of the year. We get some players back and then there are others missing. The results have been disappointing but there have been some plusses from the performances and it is a learning curve for us at the moment as we build a new team.
“Although we were well beaten on Saturday a lot of people seemed to appreciate what we are trying to do here and I am sure we will get there in the end.”
Defender Lewis Cook has decided to take a year out from football and that means March have lost 10 players from last season’s first team squad.
Aaron McKenna and Joe Woods, who have been training with March, have decided to stay with Wisbech St Mary for the coming season.
But on the plus side Chatteris Town skipper Stu Porter signed after playing in Saturday’s derby and goalkeeper Ben Collett has intimated he will also join when he returns from holiday. Three other Chatteris players Aaron Bailey, Tony Brown and Aidan Hollis signed last week.
