Late Brown winner is just the ticket for Wisbech St Mary

Goals from Aaron McKenna and a late Stuart Brown winner meant fifth-place in the Cambs League Premier Division Wisbech St Mary beat visitors Cottenham United 2-1.

Manager Arran Duke said: “New signing from St Ives Town Robbie Harris looked good.

“Marc Welcher (from March Town) also made his debut and gave a man of the match display.”

Boss Steve Bright said Chatteris “gave the ball away too many times” as they went down 4-0 to visitors Hardwick.

He added:”We didn’t pass and move. Hardwick didn’t make many mistakes and capitalised on ours.”

At 1-0 a shot from usual right-back Jack Whiting, playing in midfield because Ben Matthews was injured, hit the underside of the bar before the break.

Upwell’s run in the Haigh Cup came to an end 4-3 against an undefeated Castle Camps Res. Goals came from Scott Beetlestone, Gary Green and a Luke Gale penalty.

Upwell manager, Karl Schultz said: “We were paid many complements by the opposition and the referee after the match with comments such as ‘you’re the best opposition we’ve had to date’.”
