Two late goals sealed victory for the Fenmen on Saturday in the UCL Premier Division.
Matt Lunn netted after 31 minutes at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium. On 83 minutes Tony Battersby displayed a good take-down and finish of the ball while a foul on Battersby earned a penalty which Callum Reed converted.
Their victory puts Wisbech in eighth place, opening up a six-point gap between them and the rest of the table.
Joint boss Paul Cousins said: “We were a bit sluggish in the first 20 minutes of the first half but the last 20 was among the best football we’ve played.
“Lunny’s was the pick of the goals – it was a good move in the final third.
“If we had scored again their heads could have gone down.
“But they were still in the game and the second half was a scrappy affair. In the last 10 their legs were a bit tired and we passed the ball well.”
Cousins (pictured) added: “I didn’t play as I’m suspended for the FA Vase and I wanted to give the centre-halves a chance who will play in that tie to play together.
“I like to keep a clean sheet because I am a centre-half myself.”
