Leverington Sports lost 3-2 to visitors Riverside with a late wonder goal after Jason Day had levelled twice in the Peterborough League Premier Division.
Manager Stuart Webb said: “It was a cracking goal, he cut away from the line and hit one into the top corner from 20 yards.
“It could have gone out for a corner or a throw-in but unfortunately for us it went in. Captain Darren Rawthorn was outstanding in midfield.”
Day had equalised from a loose ball when a Ryan Howell free-kick was parried by the goalkeeper, but Riverside retook the lead 30 seconds later when they went up the other end.
Following a half-time grilling from Webb and assistant Wayne Garner, the team scored through Day but they could not convert three one-on-one chances.
Third-placed Parson Drove went down 2-1 at Peterborough ICA with an Anthony Hunt strike.
In Division One James Ward bagged a brace in Long Sutton’s 3-2 at Farcet, while Sutton Bridge lost 4-2 at Netherton Res. Bridge were actually four behind at the break but a brace from Nicholas Reims made the scoreline respectable.
In Division Two Leverington Res are one of five teams on four points after two games after picking up their first victory 4-3 at Oundle. Mariusz Kudyba 2 and Paul Richardson 2 were the scorers.
Long Sutton Res got off the Division Three winning mark with a 2-1 triumph over Kings Cliffe Res thanks to Jonathan Hubbard and Steven Robinson finding the target.
Samuel Fabela and Wayne Wallis replied for Leverington A in a 5-2 Division Four loss at Sawtry Res.
Division Five: AFC Peterborough 4 Gaultree 7; Sutton Bridge Res 3 Hampton Sports 2; Tydd St Mary 4 Glinton 0.
