Peterborough League chiefs have vowed to carry out a full investigation after the Tydd St Mary v Pro Evo game was abandoned on Saturday.
Referee Thomas Woolley halted the Division Five game after 67 minutes after a Pro Evo player had been sent off and a Tydd St Mary player was attacked with the score at 2-2.
Tydd’s manager Carl Wilson said: “It is the first time I have feared for my safety and my players on a Saturday afternoon.”
The league’s spokesman Keith Sharpe said: “We will launch a full investigation, Both teams and the referee will be asked for their observations and to explain what caused the match to be abandoned.”
Tydd St Mary and Pro Evo both joined the league this season.
