FA Vase

Mildenhall Town 6,

March Town 1

THE Hares were eliminated from the FA Vase after a second half horror show in Saturday’s First Round Qualifying tie following such a promising start.

Adam Rothery had made it 2-1 on the hour mark at Recreation Way, but Mildenhall Town, who are fourth in the Ridgeons Premier Division, ran away with it after that.

March boss Brett Whaley said: “The scoreline flattered them, but saying that for half an hour we were awful.

“We had got it back to 2-1, and then they broke away up the other end and scored, and after that they outran us.

“They were not a bad side, but it was the best hour of football we had played all season. We were 2-1 down against the run of play.

“I felt we were excellent but then our legs gave out. All the energy had gone out of our game and it ended up as a bit of a rout. I think they scored four in the last 15 minutes.

“It was really disappointing, but the massive plus was the first hour. We have to build again and work hard.”

It appeared the third game in a week against Premier League opposition was too much for Division One Hares.

“We need to be fitter, but the two Wisbech FA Cup games took more out of us than we thought,” added Whaley. “Our legs just weren’t there, and players were just coming back from injuries.

“At training this week we’ll work hard and look at the good hour we had.”
