March Town FC retain Bill Salisbury Cup at Chatteris

March Town FC retained the Bill Salisbury Cup at West Street on Wednesday night with a 2-1 derby win over hosts Chatteris Town.

In a close and well-contested game a 16th minute headed goal by Dan Woods from a Fiddes cross saw the Hares on their way, and then on 56 mins Max Mattless set up Matt Barber to fire into the corner of the net. Chatteris got one back with a penalty 10 minutes from the end.

The Hares Under 18 team made it a double on the same night at Swaffham. Following their first friendly at home to March Rangers on Saturday which ended 1-1, March beat a strong Swaffham outfit 2-1 with a late strike by Myles Ola.

Tomorrow (Saturday 30) March entertain Wisbech Town in a pre-season friendly.

On Saturday, August 6 March Town Utd begin their Thurlow Nunn League Division One away campaign with a trip to new team Coggeshall Town. The Essex men were promoted from the Essex & Suffolk Border League.

This is after March host Wisbech St Mary in a season-opening derby on Tuesday at the GER.

Benji Brittin and Ben Green will be Chatteris Reserves joint-managers during the 2016/17 season. The Reserve team can also confirm Andy Moye, who stepped down from his role as first team assistant manager, and Will Mason will be taking up senior player/coach roles this season.

There was a 2-1 win for Wisbech Town FC over Wimblington on Wednesday night. Goal scorers were Jack Brand and Curtis Knight.
