PARSON Drove manager Nick Markillie is to stay in charge for next season after considering quitting a month ago.

It has not been the best of seasons for Drove who lost their final game of the season 3-2 at home to Whittlesey on Saturday in the Peterborough Premier Division to finish in the bottom five.

Richard Harnwell gave them an early lead from a corner but Whittlesey were back on terms before the break.

Whittlesey then forged ahead but a good goal from Wayne Morton brought the scores level with 15 minutes to go at 2-2.

But then a defensive mix-up handed Whittlesey the three points with a free header at the far post to win 3-2.

Markilllie commented: “It was a typical end of season game. I was considering quitting but have decided to carry on next season.

“This has been a frustrating season for us. We have got a good squad of players and should have done a lot better. The aim is now to add two or three players to make a big challenge next season.”

It has also not been the best of seasons for Leverington either who have finished third from bottom after a 2-1 defeat against Oundle on Saturday.

Typical of their luck this season they finished with nine players when central defenders Steve Thompson and Marti Ryan clashed heads late in the second half after two substitutes had been used and had to go hospital with head injuries.

It was Ryan who gave Leverington the lead in the first half when his side dominated but had a goal disallowed and two others hit the woodwork.

But early in the second half they conceded two quick goals and just looked to be getting back into the game when they lost Ryan and Thompson.

Manager Alan Russell said: “We really should have had more than one goal in the first half when we were well on top.

“Then we had two minutes of madness after the break and gave them two goals.

“Fortunately Thommo needed only a couple of stitches and Ryan had his injury glued.”
