MATT Cawthorn hit his third hat-trick of the season to help Long Sutton to a very good 5-4 win over Hampton in the Peterborough League Division One.

Hampton took the lead in the first five minutes but then Cawthorn, who left the club earlier this season for a brief spell with Langtoft, took centre stage.

His three goals, including a 25-yard shot, came in a 20-minute spell in the first half to take the Magpies into a 3-1 lead and he has now got 16 league goals to his credit this season. Ryan Lennon made it 4-1 before the break.

Hampton made it 4-2 early in the second half, but Martin Ward scored with a deflected shot to make it 5-2 to Long Sutton.

Hampton however then struck with two goals to set up an exciting last 15 minutes, but Long Sutton brought on Jay Power and Chris Madden to tighten things up and held on for the three points.

Long Sutton boss Binny Mackay said: “It was a well deserved win, but we made it a lot harder than it should have been. Their fourth goal from the penalty spot was a bit harsh.”

Parson Drove’s relegation fears in the Premier Division grew with a 2-1 defeat at Deeping Reserves. Scott McManus scored the Drove goal.

Guyhirn had a very good North Cambs Junior Cup win against March Town Reserves by 4-3 on penalties.

The two teams were locked at 2-2 after extra time with Guyhirn’s Charlie Clucas and Lee Benton on target.

Leverington Reserves lost out 3-1 at Whittlesey Blue Star in the same competition with Dale Palmer on target.

Former Long Sutton player Matt Stancer was also in hat-trick form as Sutton Bridge enjoyed a 6-3 win against Peterborough Rovers in Division Two.

The other goals came from Ben Partridge, Joe Sutton and Nicholas Reims and they have moved into fourth place in the table.

Tydd St Mary continued their good run of form with a narrow 3-2 but deserved win against Nelson on Saturday in the Boston League. Stephen Cousins, Tim Brookin and Matty Eaton were on target.
