Whitton United 1, March Town 0
The Hares suffered only their second Ridgeons League defeat of the season against second placed Whitton on Saturday in a game of few chances.
The two sides met on the opening day of the season in a 2-2 draw at the GER and there was precious little between the two sides again.
The home side did start the game the better and took the lead after 25 minutes, but March got better as the game progressed.
Luke Pepper came agonisingly close to an equaliser when his shot from outside the area was touched over the bar by the keeper’s fingertips.
After the break Dan Jenkins also had a good chance to put March level when he shot from eight yards but the Whitton keeper spread himself well to deflect the ball wide with an arm.
Towards the end Whitton started to get on top again but Lea Jordan made a good save to keep the score at 1-0.
March boss Brett Whaley said: “I am not too disappointed with our performance. I do not think we did enough to win the game but felt we deserved something from it.
“It was a very tight game throughout with not a lot of good football. Their keeper made two good saves and Lea Jordan made one, but there were few chances.”
March: Lea Jordan, Scott Davis, Gav Cooke, Ben Hepworth, Adam Sutton, Chris Lenton, Kyle Nolan, Dan Jenkins, Stu Anderson, Luke Pepper, Ash Brand. Subs: Tom Norton, Jim Orvis, James Quinn.
