Cambs Kershaw League
Marchester Utd 6
Wicken Athletic 2
A winning start for the new year for United, putting six past a Wicken side who took the lead early on.
Once United got into their stride, a goal from Ed Robinson at the near post levelled things and a superb free-kick from the same player gave the home side a 2-1 half-time lead.
Wicken equalised, but a second half hat-trick from new striker Eddy Pentney and a Lewis Greening goal secured the win which now puts Marchester in fifth place in the league.
Burwell Tigers 4
Benwick Athletic Res 0
Benwick Athletic Reserves put in a defiant performance for 70 minutes against high-flying Burwell Tigers, only being 0-1 down, due to some last ditch defending and an inspired performance from keeper Andy Parker.
Parker made at least 10 first class saves and there were also some clearances off the line. Benwick didn’t take their chances and couldn’t keep goals out for the last 20 minutes.
Manager Mark Bishop said: “In my 45 years of football, that was a magnificent performance from our keeper and I’ve never seen better.”
