The Hares lost despite having by far the most possession to sit sixth in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.

Skipper and centre half Max Mattless notched his 50th consecutive game for the first team.

In the Cambs Invitation Cup March Town United hosted Over Sports last night and travel to Halstead Town on Saturday.

Ten-man March lost 2-1 at Dereham on Wednesday.

The Hares showed profligacy and missed three chances from successive corners, to remain behind 1-0 at half-time. From a free-kick by Gerard Evans, Mattless equalised.

With eight minutes to go keeper James Mortlock’s dive at the ball was deemed by the assistant to be a foul. It was a penalty, a yellow card and a conversion.

At the end Sean White was scythed down by a mid-air tackle, and a melee saw Matt Cox pick up a second yellow card.

March: Mortlock, Jackman, Goult, Cox, Mattless, Evans (Pepper 80), Merryweather. Cooke (Jackson 73), Menezes (Carter 63), Odain, White.

The Reserves had a 4-0 win over Littleport to stay top of the league with five wins on the bounce. Goals: Callum Young (2), Tom Morton and James Youles.

The Under 16s lost 6-2 at Peterborough Sports. The U15s beat Thurlby 2-1 with goals from Jamie Gray-Esson and Ryan Stacey-Powell.

The Hares were two minutes away from victory when Downham equalised.

Shannon Kelly scored in the first minute and Emma Searle doubled the lead.

PoM Tori Sharpe made some cracking saves but was finally beaten on the stroke of half-time. Kelly lobbed her second goal, but Downham fought back.
