Wisbech Town FC have signed goalkeeper Ryan Rayner and striker Chris Bacon to make it six new signings this summer.
Rayner has impressed in three friendly appearances in the last week and boss Steve Appleby was keen to add him to his squad after the game at Spalding on Saturday. Rayner was at Kettering Town last season and made a handful of appearances in the first team towards the end of the season. He was previously with Stevenage.
Appleby said of the 21-year-old: “He has a big presence at 6ft 5in and kicks the ball well.
“He had a very good game against Blackstones last week.”
It did look as though Chris Horton would be first choice keeper for the Fenmen this season after Lea Jordan’s depar-ture, but Rayner’s appearance may have changed that now.
Bacon, an ex-King’s Lynn stri-ker, signed after last Tuesday’s game against Boston United and 48 hours later scored in the 2-0 win against Blackstones.
Bacon made 26 appearances for the Linnets last season and scored 10 goals. It surprised some fans when he was released after the end of the season.
Appleby said: “He is a very good signing for us. He can score goals and hold the ball up to bring players into the game. He has already been excellent for us.”
