Wisbech Town boss Brett Whaley says the injury to Steven Reid is a massive blow to the club.
Reid suffered a double-fracture of his right leg on Saturday and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing an operation on Monday.
The midfielder could be out of action until the end of this year, and Whaley said: “Steven will get through this as that’s the type of lad he is, but it’s a massive blow to lose him.
“We were delighted to win a game of football on Saturday but once we learned the extent of Steven’s injury that was soon forgotten about.
“Reidy is one of those players who was nailed-on to be part of what we are trying to build for next season. Yes we can bring a player in to replace him, but it would be difficult to find someone with Steven’s attitude and ability. He is very passionate about his football and has always given a lot up for the club.”
Wisbech on Saturday visit unbeaten second-spot AFC Kempston Rovers.
