PAUL Cousins became the second player to quit Wisbech Town this week when he followed Callum Reed by agreeing to join rivals King’s Lynn on Wednesday night.
The Wisbech skipper, who has been vociferous in his support for Wisbech in the past, cited problems behind the scenes for wanting to leave earlier this week but manager Steve Appleby believes his head has been turned by a big offer to join the UCL side.
Appleby said: “It is a sad day not just for Wisbech but for football in general when a player so passionate about the club as Paul can leave and join their most hated rivals.”
Fenmen fans were already upset when they heard that their “Mr Wisbech” was considering leaving and now his departure will anger them even further.
