MARCH Town are looking tonight to book their place in the Ridgeons Division One Knockout Cup final when they travel to Godmanchester Rovers for a semi-final tie.

The Hares have already had a 3-0 win at Godmanchester in the league this season so there is no surprise that manager Brett Whaley is feeling confident about getting the right result.

“That win should give us the confidence to go there and, although they are a very good side, we have produced our best displays against the top sides this season by also beating Thetford in this competition and the league.

“At the start of the season we targeted this competition as our best chance of winning any silver-ware and even though we’ve had a dip in our form recently I am sure we will be giving everything to reach the final as everyone is up for it.

“The one thing I cannot knock in our disappointing run recently has been the effort of the players and they showed this in the win against Long Melford in the last game.”

“It is a massive game for us but there would be no better way to finish a season than playing in a cup final and it would be great reward for players like Luke Pepper, Ash Brand and Marc Welcher who have been so loyal to the club and the directors who put in so much work behind the scenes.”

This is March’s chance to end 24 years without a trophy, the last coming in 1988 when they won the Ridgeons League.

Whaley will have a full squad to choose from and Craig Norman, who has been out with an elbow injury, is in contention after playing 45 minutes in a friendly against Doddington last Wednesday.

“Craig came through the 45 minutes well and we were also able to give Dan Jenkins and Marc Welcher 90 minutes too,” added Whaley.

The Hares boss also had a look at two possibly new players in that game with Tony Pascu from Deeping and Soham youth player Joe Shippey and they may also be included in tonight’s squad with Aaron Butcher back in goal after missing the Long Melford game.

On Saturday March are at home to Team Bury in Ridgeons Division One and will be looking to avenge a recent defeat against them.
