Wisbech Town skipper Paul Cousins confirmed that he and senior player Scott Johnson will pick the team for Saturday’s trip to Huntingdon Town.
In the short-term, former player Darren Jimson will return to the club and help Cousins and Johnson run the team after Steve Appleby stepped down on Monday.
Applications are invited for the position of first team manager. Interested parties should send their football CV to email@example.com as soon as possible.
The club posted a resignation statement from Appleby (pictured).
Appleby said: “I have enjoyed some successful times in my three and a half years here.
“The decision is based purely on me losing the hunger and motivation after the club declined to take promotion at the end of last season.
“I feel that perhaps during the summer I allowed my heart to rule my head and although some people may question the timing of my decision, it’s in no way related to the relatively poor start which the team has made to this season.
“I’ve tried to be as loyal as I can and so have all the players and tried to give it a go but I feel that I’m genuinely not doing myself or the club justice and that’s one thing I’ll never do; I certainly wouldn’t be here just to “go through the motions”. I’m a driven man – in football – and I want to do well and I hope you’ll all respect my decision.”
