LEVERINGTON Reserves rounded off a great season last week when they won promotion from Peterborough League Division Three with a penalty shoot out win against Oundle Reserves in the play-off final.
It was typical of Shane Milner’s team that they should do it the hard way.
They were leading 2-0 with 10 minutes to play and looked to be cruising but then conceded two late goals for the promotion decision to go to penalties.
Mariusz Kudibya gave Leverington a first half lead and then the veteran Paul Clarke looked to have made the game safe with a second goal after 70 minutes before the late Oundle surge.
Fortunately Leverington won the shoot out 4-3 with goalkeeper Shaun White the hero making a good save from Oundle’s fifth penalty after they had already hit the post.
Milner said: “I thought we would win promotion at the start of the season but we have had to do it the hard way in the end. It has been a really great season with the two cup wins and now promotion and the lads have done fantastic.
“The club as a whole has done very well this season too and is lot more solid now and we cannot wait for next season to come around now.”
